It is a simple process all I can think is that square gets a percentage of royalties from their supported printer sales and thats why they are locking everything down to these ridiculously overpriced pieces of equipment.
As a bluetooth only device, it is a bit glitchy. If you are wanting to use it with a phone/tablet only as a standalone device, look elsewhere. The miura m010 reader works great for this, though is unfortunately not available on amazon.
Hi @McNabbGames — I went ahead and combined your thread with another seller’s who had a similar question. I can assure you that we’re always looking into more affordable hardware options for our sellers. As for the technical explanation, from my limited understanding (I’m not an engineer), each printer manufacturer has a specific driver for their hardware, and since manufacturers don’t build printer drivers for Square Point of Sale, we would have to build one for each printer model – which is something we don’t have the bandwidth to do.
We also know that personalization is in the details, so we offer many different bluetooth receipt printer Use like Receipt Printer , Thermal Printer , Dye Sublimation Printer , Barcode Printer , Photo Printer , Document Printer , Other , Label Maker , Stylus Printer , Line Printer, and others.

For this particular setup, you’ll need to create a printer station. Printer stations let you designate specific tasks for your printers, like printing receipts, tickets, or stubs. With your printer plugged in, go to Settings, Printers, and Create Printer Station. Enter a printer station name. Now select what you’d like your printer to print. Make sure you select at least one option. Then tap the printer selection menu and select your printer. Test your printer by tapping Test Print. Then, tap Save. Your printer station settings are now saved and can be applied to any connected printer.
Overall, this is a great printer. I can’t complain about the price because for similar thermal printers, this is relatively cheap. Any cheaper and there are issues with printing mechanics and whatnot.

Purchased this printer because it was cheaper than others by over $50. Mike helped set it up with the software when the software company would not help me. It works great – similar to Epson and Bixolon but a much better price. Tech support is great – quick response by email, phone and chat.

A plug-in Bluetooth receipt printer is great for when you have a more traditional point of sale setup but don’t have an available USB port.  In these cases you can pair the printer with your tablet or PC and keep it plugged into the wall.  It’ll function like a standard receipt printer, communicating via Bluetooth.

@usascottwright – While we don’t currently support Epson printers, it’s definitely a popular feature request. I’ll update this thread if that changes in the future! Also, apologies for the delay in following up with you.
Just click the Transaction and the Receipt will preview on the right-hand side. At the bottom, you’ll see the receipt number (ex: Receipt #H8R5). Click that and it will show you the digital version of the receipt. From there you’re good to print on the standard 8×11 printer paper.

This is one of the more common thermal receipt printers used with Square Payments. It generally costs less than $200. It come in white and black color. It has an auto-cutter to slice thermal receipt paper for you. It uses thermal paper so you never never need to fill it with ink. It is generally easy to maintain and add paper when you need it. So this is a printer that works well in a wide variety of environments. However, if you are in a kitchen or some area where the air is moist you may want to get an impact printer as thermal receipt paper does not work well in moist environments where there is little ventilation. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.

You don’t need to screw around with the extra settings, just turn on the cash drawer before/After print and be done. All of that coupon set up, barcode stuff on there is good but is best to use within your software development for better control but it too is useful. I use code 3-9 and scanner picks it right up for my transaction numbers. Now you do have programming options to setup the cutter and all of that but for those needing something fo there store on a quick, serve my customers base, this is by far the best and a heck of a lot cheaper that the t88 models by which I don’t see any difference by any means
Worst printer I have ever purchased, connecting it to wifi was the biggest challenge and then it totally died 6.5 months after I set it up it will not turn on at all. I asked Scangle support for a new one but I was told I needed to skype a tech to troubleshoot it … how can you troubleshoot something that wont turn on?
Customer displays, available as pole or desktop models, can deliver price information and advertising to a customer at the POS. Customer displays may contain either multi-line fluorescent or LCD displays that connect to your system through a USB, Serial, or Parallel connection. Make it easy for your customers to follow each transaction with the right customer display.
One of the advanced settings in the Green Bits register app is Receipt Printer Heartbeat. The “heartbeat” is a periodic check to make sure the register and printer are communicating. The downside is that it also increases network traffic between the printer and iPad and could be the cause of connection issues. Disabling the this setting reduces traffic over the network.
UPDATE: August 14, 2016 – Still no issues with printing. There is a slight delay, about five seconds, between completing the transaction and printing the receipt. This could very well be an issue using Square Payment Systems, and not really the printer and the IPad that I’ve linked it to for Square sales. The printer does lose its Bluetooth connection when I move the IPad to the next room, which is expected, but it often does not “find” and then “pair” again without me going through the printer’s pairing process again. For that reason, I’m lowering my star rating from five to four. In the scheme of things, this is just a minor inconvenience and the printer quality more than makes up for any issues with pairing from time to time.
