With most printer categories, you should consider whether you really need color. Photo printers turn the question on its head, so you should consider whether you need black and white, which many printers can’t handle well. The most common flaw is a tint, or different color tints for different shades of gray. If you print black and white photos, you’ll need to check out black and white photo quality apart from the printer’s color photo quality. This is more often a problem for dedicated, rather than near-dedicated, photo printers, but you need to consider it in either case. (In our reviews, we note such tints and their severity when we encounter them, but we don’t use monochrome images to test small-format printers.)

I bought this printer in September, it’s now May and it’s broken. I wouldn’t suggest. We’re not a super busy business, we print maybe 15 receipts a day just to sign credit cards. We don’t print receipts for clients we email them. And it’s broken beyond repair.
The Star SM-S220i mobile printer is a great option for businesses looking to incorporate mobile POS or line busting into their daily operations. With support for a variety of devices and operating systems, the SM-S220i is a versatile 2-inch printing solution.
This printer is fast and has useable options. I use it with my iPad and Square credit card reader. You can also use it for POS or other systems or configurations. Using it with Square credit card processor I save paper because I only print the customer copy because all the other transaction data is accessed online. And when I tap print on my iPad it starts and completes the printing in just one second. I saw this printer being used at my local drug store with a different setup and it too works well. Give it a try and I think you’ll be glad you did.
Why, for God’s sakes, can we not have a receipt that takes up a single page instead of three pages???  I’ve been a customer of square-enabled businesses for at least 4 years, and Square hasn’t come up with a solution for this?  I saw where someone asked this question in April but didn’t get any responses.  Please, please, please?  Is there some setting that everyone else in America is using, but I’m not?  Please help me.
Overall, seems to be a decent printer to use with an iPad-based point of sale system. However, after about 3 weeks, the printer stopped cutting the receipts & went into an error mode that the owner’s manual said was “non-recoverable”. I contacted Star Micronics customer service & shipped to their repair facility. They got it back to me within 3-4 days & everything was covered under the warranty, minus the cost to ship the printer to them. So far, it seems to be working as expected since I got it back from being repaired. Perhaps I just got a bad one that came off the assembly line & somehow managed to slip through quality control.
I never imagine it could be this easy to do the set up. All you need to do is follow the manual. I looked into Amazon for weeks until I decided to purchase this printer which featuring all connection types with a very satisfying price. I would recommended this to anyone who is looking for a cheap and well-performance portable printer.
